Migraines are a debilitating neurological disease that affect over 38 million men, women, and children in the United States alone. 10% of school-aged children suffer from migraines.
Many believe that a migraine is simply a headache, but that's just not true! While the pain felt during a migraine can reach unbearable peaks, there are many other symptoms that take place throughout the body during an attack. Some people experience auras or visual disturbances, vomiting or nausea, dizziness, confusion, numbness or tingling in the extremities or face, and extreme sensitivity to light, sound, smell, and/or touch. Migraines take a toll on the whole body!
For the approximate 6 million sufferers who experience Chronic Migraine - attacks that occur at least 15 days per month - depression, anxiety, and sleep disturbances are not uncommon.
Migraine research is extremely underfunded, even though it touches so many lives. Raising awareness and educating people on the severity of migraines helps all of us understand what this disease is, it helps our friends and family understand our pain, and it brings hope for the future.
In celebration of Migraine Awareness Month, donations will be accepted from June 1st through June 30th. We have a goal of reaching $2,000, but I am hoping we can surpass that amount and have a new goal to strive toward next year! Since all donations go straight towards migraine research, every bit helps!
- Almost 1 in 4 U.S. households are affected by migraines.
There is a good chance that you already know someone whose life is impacted by this disease. Please help us spread awareness and bring attention to this fundraiser by sharing our Crowdrise page on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, or any other social networking site!
Thank you for your help!
(Please note the 10% Crowdrise tip is optional and does not go to MRF!)
