A: On Saturday, October 22, people across Nova Scotia will gather at the same time in hundreds of different locations to share the magic of food with one another while raising funds for FEED NOVA SCOTIA. It’s a province-wide potluck party that’s fun, customizable, and accessible to everyone.
Q: So, is it just a series of individual potlucks?
A: Nope! Guests everywhere will be virtually connected as one huge community through a strong social media forum. We’ll be letting you know about all the things happening the night of the event you won’t want to miss!
Q: Who will host and how does it work?
A: Anyone can host! Individuals, business owners, politicians, regional managers, companies, teams, clubs— the list is endless! Once a host signs up, they’ll set up an online page and invite guests.
Q: How are you raising funds?
A: In addition to bringing a dish to share with everyone at the potluck, guests will be asked to make a monetary donation to FEED NOVA SCOTIA. It’s a fundraiser after all, so pay it forward. Bring a dish for your friends, and a monetary donation for a family in need.
Q: Are there other ways to donate if I don’t want to do it online?
A: Online donations are best so we can track and celebrate funds raised in the weeks leading up to the event. If you or your guests prefer to donate with cash or cheques (payable to FEED NOVA SCOTIA), make sure to include a note that says the donations are part of Nova Scotia’s Biggest Potluck, and include the name of the party host. Also include the full name and mailing address for each individual donor so tax receipts can be issued. And lastly, make sure they arrive safely at FEED NOVA SCOTIA, 213 Bedford Highway, Halifax NS B3M 2J9.
Q: I’m in. What now?

Our mission is to feed Nova Scotians in need, and to reduce that need. To achieve this, we distribute almost 2 million kilograms of donated food to our member network of 147 food banks, meal programs, and shelters across the province. But our role also extends beyond food. We support our members as they build capacity to serve their communities, and we raise awareness of the challenges hunger and poverty create each day for thousands of Nova Scotians.
• 43,682 Nova Scotians were supported by a food bank in 2015
• For every $2 we receive, we deliver 3 meals worth of food to our network of food banks, meal programs, and shelters.
• Last year, we collected and distributed 1.8 million kilograms of food, valued at $10 million.
• More than half the food we distribute is fresh and frozen perishables.
• Sometimes a listening ear can be just as critical as a bag of groceries. Many of our member agencies take a holistic approach to hunger, ensuring people in their community not only receive food, but find opportunity and hope too.
More than 50% of our member agencies provide assistance beyond food such as nutrition education, budgeting help, children’s programming, parental support, referral to other community services, and much more.

Sure, it’s about physical nourishment, but it’s so much more than that too. For me, it’s usually the centrepiece of fun times with family and friends. But I know that’s not the case for everyone. For thousands of Nova Scotians, food is about worry and fear rather than comfort and camaraderie. I want to change that, and I hope you’ll help.
On October 22, I’m joining FEED NOVA SCOTIA in bringing to life Nova Scotia’s Biggest Potluck, and I’m asking you to make a donation.
For every $2 you donate to my fundraising campaign, FEED NOVA SCOTIA can distribute 3 meals. I hope I can count on your support, and I can’t wait to see how many meals we can all raise together!
