We work with the Lakota people
- to provide fresh meat and produce to about 2000 people every month to combat hunger and diet-related disease.
- With unemployment at 85% on the reservation, the OS wood program employs Lakota men to haul, cut and deliver wood for heat to elders and families and to repair homes.
- The sponsorship programs provides sponsors for about 1000 elders and children.
- The Okini program meets urgent needs.
This year the focus is on the youth.
We are supporting Lakota efforts to change the negative statistics of high school drop out, youth suicides, drugs, gangs, and alcohol and to show that Lakota youth are more than negative statistics. The youth centers will provide recreation, education and caring adults. The programs will emphasize Lakota values:
Respect, Honesty, Fortitude, Generosity, Courage,
Responsibility, and Wisdom.
