BENEFITING: POSTPARTUM SUPPORT INTERNATIONAL
EVENT: Climb out of the Darkness
EVENT DATE: Jun 17, 2017
DAY TO GO
Climb Out of the Darkness® is the world’s largest event raising awareness of maternal mental illnesses like postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety & OCD, postpartum PTSD, postpartum psychosis, bipolar/peripartum onset, and pregnancy depression and anxiety.
Climb Out of the Darkness® is held on or near the longest day of the year annually to help shine the most light on perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. The event features mothers and others across the globe joining together to climb mountains and hike trails to represent their symbolic rise out of the darkness of maternal mental illness and into the light of hope and recovery.
Team Oregon-Corvallis is raising funds to not only support the work of Postpartum Support International, but also to benefit our local community. 75% of the funds we raise will be returned back to us, to fund and support a perinatal peer-support group. The funds we receive from PSI and Climb Out of the Darkness will go toward:
1. Hosting a regularly held, sustainable and well-run peer-support group in Corvallis for those who are dealing with perinatal mood and anxiety issues.
2. Compensation for those providing childcare during the support group.
3. Training for facilitators of the support group to ensure a professional level of facilitation and a helpful and safe group dynamic.
4. Compensation for those who facilitate the support group. This skilled position requires a time commitment during the group's meetings, as well as outside the group meeting times. In order for the group to be socially responsible, sustainable and dependable, facilitators need to be paid for their valuable skills and time.
Community members who are interested in becoming a facilitator will have the opportunity to apply in July 2017.
