This is our 2nd year attending NorSLED’s (Northern CA Sled Dog Resuce) fundraiser So Mush Fun Sled-Dog race. Last year we went as spectator’s this year Sapphie & Amber (Our Two Gems) will be participating in the 2-mile timed dry-land mush around the lagoon located in Vacaville, CA.
NorSLED is a nonprofit organization which helps rescue, foster, and find homes for the abandoned and abused Northern breed dogs such as Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes, Samoyed's and mixes of these breeds.
In September of 2013 my mom was looking for a husky since she had fallen love with my Sapphie girl. Amber was found on a Craigslist ad as a re-home; little did we know we were there to rescue her. Amber was 2 years old and 10 lbs underweight, hip and rib bones showing and no muscle mass. She was starving. She had no life in her eyes and if you know huskies that is there portal to their soul and they talk very much through their eyes. She only came home with maybe 2 cups of dog food and a princess dog dish. They called her Carrie but we felt she needed a new name since she was getting a new beginning on life. We changed her name to Amber. She got her name because of her eyes are Amber / Gold.
My mom who is Amber’s guardian took on the task of making her dog food from scratch everyday for 3 weeks; which consist of chicken and rice which gave her the proteins she needed as well as the starch. She would take her to the dog park every day not only to socialize with other dogs but allow her to build up the muscle mass she needed to become the confident beautiful fur baby she is today.
We both have tremendous love for the Northern Breeds and it BEARS all things: Breed Education, Awareness and Rescue.
I am reaching out to all of our family and friends, H2M2 supporters as well as anyone out there that would like to donate to this wonderful rescue that gives second chances to all of the Northern breeds pure bred or mixed because all of them deserve to have someone love them!
All proceeds go directly to the dogs!!
