ORGANIZER: LOS ANGELES CHAMBER ORCHESTRA SOCIETY INC
Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra presents Play Me, I’m Yours by artist Luke Jerram, a community-wide art and music installation featuring 30 pianos across Los Angeles County. Designed and decorated by local artists and community organizations, the pianos are available for three weeks for everyone to enjoy. Play Me, I’m Yours honors acclaimed conductor and pianist Jeffrey Kahane’s 15th anniversary as LA Chamber Orchestra music director.
The installation launches on April 12, 2012 at noon with a simultaneous play-in of Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I at all 30 pianos. Angelenos community-wide are invited to seek out a piano nearby (or try to find all 30) to play a favorite tune, plunk out a few notes, arrange a concert or just listen to others make music. Follow @LACOtweets for up-do-the-minute information, and join the conversation with #PMIYinLA.
During the three-week installation, the pianos invite all — young and old, musicians and non-musicians, amateurs and professionals — to practice, play, jam, compose on and sing along with them. Los Angeles will soon join the more than 20 cities around the world that have hosted this dynamic multidisciplinary project. So go ahead, Play Me, I'm Yours. Join the virtual community by uploading photos and videos of the pianos on streetpianosLA.com and "like" the Play Me, I'm Yours Los Angeles facebook page.
The Herb Alpert Foundation will match up to $10,000 in new and increased gifts to the Orchestra to support Play Me, I'm Yours. Join in and help LACO raise the money to support this truly incredible community project that celebrates the art and artistry that defines Los Angeles as the creative capital of the world!
