Please help me. I am marching on the Great March for Climate Action to unite with more than 200 other people from around the country and the world to create greater awareness of the urgency to change our lives and to take action to address our climate crisis. On Valentine's Day I said goodbye to my long time companion, seen in the photo. Her name was Dita (pronounced Dee-tah) and we shared more than 15 years of love and life. I miss her terribly and I am dedicating my participation in The March to her, as brave, loving and loyal a friend as I will ever know. My promise to her was to live the rest of my own life with purpose and courage and love. Joining this march is the first step in honoring her and keeping that promise.
The natural world is the heart of my spiritual experience and of my ethical belief system. As humans destroy the earth, we are destroying the very fabric of our own lives and losing something essential about what it means to be human. The loss of ecosystem services and the catastrophic loss of biodiversity leaves me filled with sorrow. We are now in the 6th great wave of extinctions documented within geologic time. This is the first and only one caused primarily by the actions of a single species- our own. This will likely be the most catastrophic wave of extinctions of all. I must do more. My voice, my spirit, can make a difference. I believe that. I know, in the company of hundreds of other committed people, together we will make a dramatic impact. Ordinary people along the March route will meet us, share stories, food, laughter, hopes for their children and for the earth. This will be an extraordinary experience. I wish I could commit to the whole distance. Nothing is more important than standing up now to be counted.
This earth is the only home we have, the only home we will ever have. Together we have to weave a dream of re-creation, of restoration, of wholeness and health. Together. With your help I will join hundreds of other people to stand up and march for the future, for the living Earth. Thank you so much for your donations!!!
