From the mangrove lined shores of Florida, to the sandy beaches of El Salvador, Plant A Fish empowers local communities to take action and restore native ecosystems. As Earth Day 2012 approaches, Plant A Fish hopes to inspire you to make a difference in your community. Using timeless ecological principals of education, conservation, and restoration. Our modest hope is to "plant" a mere one billion "fish" worldwide. To do this we need your help!
Program initiatives are seeded across the globe in order to restore and protect marine ecosystems and keynote species. In El Salvador, Plant A Fish is working with local Tortugeros to protect sea turtle eggs from being sold on the black market. With an unprecedented 95% hatch rate, and over 230,000 sea turtles released in 2011. In Florida, Nicaragua, and Haiti, PAF is restoring mangrove forests damaged by rapid urbanization and storm damage. Students from the NY Harbor school are planting oysters in Hudson River depleted by dredging and over harvesting. In the Florida Keys and Maldives, initiatives are helping to restore corals on damaged reefs. With your donation, Plant A Fish initiatives will continue to work to help restore and protect our oceans, our planet's one and only life support system.
We have a chance to win a $25,000 donation from Groupon if we raise the most for the Groupon Earth Day Challenge! Check out our standing here. 2nd place gets $15,000 and 3rd place gets $10,000. These funds would help us continue our current restoration initiatives, and expand to other locations in order to empower others to take action! Select the DONATE button above to give.
