Help Margot See
Organized by: Sophie Hopkins
Margot is my sweet, 4 year old miniature schnauzer. About 12 months ago she developed "juvenile" cataracts in both eyes and is now completely blind. She went from a personable and independent companion to a frightened, clinging pup almost overnight. When we go outside, Margot or "Marge" - her nickname, must always be on a leash as she walks into trees, sign posts and into the street. I can't move furniture in the apartment or she cowls in a corner when she bumps into an out of place ottoman or chair. She "wipes" her eyes constantly in an attempt to remove her blindness.
I've had her evaluated in Indianapolis, my hometown, and was told she needs to have the cataracts removed and a retina "tacked" in one eye. This will cost approximately $4,000. After the surgery she will probably only have sight in one eye but I understand that dogs do well with one eye. My plan is to take her to the Purdue University Veterinary School for the surgery as this is less expensive than going to a private veterinary surgeon.
I am a 21 year old Nashville TN, college student and can't afford to completely pay for her much needed surgery. I am saving money for her procedure and estimate I can contribute $1,500. I am hoping to raise the remaining $2,500 with your help.
I love her so much, her insecurity due to the blindness breaks my heart every day and I appreciate any help that may come her way.
