EVENT DATE: Apr 21, 2014
I'm running the 2014 Boston Marathon in honor of my father, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year. This is a terrible disease that is the 4th largest killer of all deadly cancers and the least funded of the top 10 cancers. It is also the only cancer in the top 10 with a single digit survival rate after 5 years.
I'll be raising funds for Project Purple, which is a Connecticut-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which was created with the goal of raising awareness and funding to help defeat pancreatic cancer. Its primary objective is to support patients and families who have been directly affected by this disease.
My fundraising efforts will support these three main programs put together by Project Purple:
Scholarship Program – we provide scholarships to children and grandchildren that have lost a loved one to Pancreatic Cancer or have a loved one fighting. Candidates have to be either enrolled currently in college or high school senior. We provide small scholarships to help and give hope to continue their higher education.
Patient Financial Aid Program – we provide families fighting PC with financial aid to help pay the every day bills. Examples maybe rent, mortgage, car, utilities, food and anything else associated with everyday living so families can focus on fighting then worrying about paying these bills.
Research for a cure, early detection test or improving the quality of life – we provide funding for research projects that show promise in finding a cure, early detection test or improving the quality of life for people with Pancreatic Cancer. - See more at: http://www.run4projectpurple.org
