As an avid runner these days, Brian was on a quest to find races for 2014. During the search we came across an amazing charity, PROJECT PURPLE. This organization raises funds for Pancreatic Cancer awareness, research and more. As many of you already know, this is near and dear to our heart.
In early 2012, Brian's stepfather, Ron, was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. He went through many tests and much discomfort before finding out the true cause. Then he bravely underwent surgery and fought hard. It wasn't an easy battle, however we are thrilled to say that he is thankfully cancer free today and doing quite well!
Back in 2000, we found out that Brian's grandmother, affectionately known as Geeba, had Liver and Pancreatic Cancer. We were fortunate enough to spend a lot of time with her during the battle. She fought so hard with a smile on her face and never wanted to inconvenience anyone. Unfortunately, she lost her courageous battle with this terrible disease in January of 2001.
Last year, Katie had the privilege of working with an amazing woman. Melissa Albin, a librarian in Durham/Middlefield, came to work at Brewster School. She came to school every day with a smile on her face and loved interacting with the students. She truly brought joy & happiness to Brewster each day. In September 2013, Melissa left this earth but also left her legacy behind in the community in which she served for so long.
On March 16, 2014, we will be running the New York City Half Marathon as part of PROJECT PURPLE. Our goal may seem lofty but it is completely attainable. With your help we will raise (at least) $2,000! PROJECT PURPLE provides scholarships and financial aid to families and patients, as well as helps search for a cure!
Please click the big DONATE button. Whether you can afford to give $15 or $100, every bit helps. Cancer sucks! Let's do what we can.
Pancreatic Cancer is the 4th largest killer of all cancers and the least funded of the top 10 cancer killers today. We need to do more - we have lost one too many friends, family and loved ones to this evil cancer.
Thank you all for the support!
