Ghosts of Lynn is the 4th installment of public art put on display by Lynn MA based art gallery Visionspace. In a groundbreaking collaboration, Visionspace has teamed up with the Downtown Lynn Cultural District, the Lynn Museum & Historical Society and Raw Art Works to create this unique public art project located downtown in Central Square. As Lynn and Lynners continue on with the city's revitalization efforts, we have all found that public art goes a long way in enhancing and enriching neighborhoods and attitudes.
Here's the scoop on how it all got started:
Students in the Real to Reel Filmschool program at Raw Art Works, in collaboration with the Lynn Museum, have been unearthing historical photographs of the greater Central Square area. By matching the exact vantage point of old photos (often, well over 100+ years old) and finding the exact location the old photos were taken from, Real to Reel students have re-created the photos, and then in post-production, overlaid them to 'expose' the history and changes that are right under our feet and in front of our eyes! History is alive and well in Lynn!
We hope you find this project as exciting and inspring as we do! The donations received will go toward the production and installation of the 8' x 10' photos, printed on weatherized vinyl and hung in Central Square for all the world to see! Your $30 donation will support 2 square feet of art but of course any amount helps!! Please help us spread the word by sharing away and enlightening everyone that history and art are indeed alive and well in Lynn! Thank you for being a part of the revival!
