I joined this fundraising event because my birthday is coming up and I decided I wanted to do 50 at 50. I liked the sound of it. That's how I signed up.
I also wanted to help raise funds for the place that I call my sanctuary, or at other times, my temple. The Mohonk Preserve is a nature preserve just a few miles from my home that help me rejuvenate, physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, mainly because of the beauty of the landscape and the quietness of the woods, but also for the many fun-filled days I get to enjoy of hiking, trail running, mountain biking, skiing, and rock climbing.
Preparing for this race, a mighty challenge for me, is something I cherish doing right now as it helps me keep my mind off the fact that my son is joining the army, just a couple of weeks prior to the event. I honor and respect his decision, but as a mother and pacifist, it' goes against the very core of my being. Exercising and riding the endorphin's high helps me deal with my grief. You'll be able to read my story in mid-May on my blog.
Thank you Dorothy Hamburg from Personal Strength & Training for helping me get in shape!
What is Rock The Ridge?
Rock The Ridge is a 50-mile endurance challenge set in the natural beauty of the Mohonk Preserve, a vast, non-profit nature preserve situated in the mid-Hudson Valley of New York State. The goal is to traverse a 50-mile course within 24 hours by walking, running, or any combination thereof. The course winds along carriage trails and paths, through the forests and ridgelines of the Preserve, lands which The Nature Conservancy has described as “one of Earth's last great places.”
