WATCH: Video of the row around Manhattan! (fixed!)
October 09, 2017
When I showed up at Rocking the Boat with my camera for the first time earlier this year, I was expecting to see a humble wood shop with a few teenagers hanging around. I didn't know I would find a huge boatbuilding facility, dedicated social work offices, a science lab, and dozens of smiling, laughing, motivated students, all sawing, hammering, caulking, sampling, testing, rigging, sailing, and helping each other learn. The sheer scale of Rocking the Boat - the hundreds of young people they help, the thousands of Hunts Point residents who show up for their public programs - is a testament to the dedication and talent of the organization's staff, students and leadership.
It's rare that a nonprofit seems to multiply the money it raises, but I truly believe a dollar given to Rocking the Boat will have a hundred dollars' worth of impact, helping to revitalize the South Bronx and provide opportunities for hundreds of worthy kids. Please join me in supporting Rocking the Boat!
