Running for Ruth started in 2014 after a group of women ran the Magnificent Mile in Chicago together and decided they wanted to keep running together and wanted to support Ruth Chapman, a friend from the local gym that most of the ladies went to that was battling cancer.
Running for Ruth became much more than Hoosiers Outrun Cancer. The 2014 race was the kickoff of a campaign that raised over $10,000 for Ruth's medical expenses. The effort was led by many, but Lauren Rapacki spear headed it and decided to run a marathon in Ruth's honor.
Ruth passed away in the spring of 2015. That fall, our group included many that did not know Ruth, but were somehow touched by her life, her friends, or the campaign and we had a huge birthday celebration for Ruth after the race. Our team was OVER 100 STRONG.
Running for Ruth is a team for those that knew and love Ruth and ANYONE that wants to be make a difference in someone's life. Ruth is someone who did this in many ways and we are proud to race in her spirit.
Our team will be walkers, runners, and strollers galore - all are welcome.
The money we raise touches so many, in a multitude of ways. Everyone knows someone whose life was touched, and changed, by cancer. This is your chance to MAKE A DIFFERENCE in someone’s life, perhaps it will be your own.
