EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017

Thank you for visiting my Samaritans Marathon team fundraising page in support of reducing the incidence of suicide. I have the great privledge to represent this non-profit organization in the 2017 Boston Marathon. I'm very excited to join a team that supports suicide prevention as it has become very important in my life.
I have the honor of running in memory of my former athlete at Marshfield High School Kevin Friedland and my friend Shawn White.
I was very lucky to have had the opportunity to Coach Kevin for 4 years in Cross Country and Track at Marshfield High School. He was very soft spoken and reserved as an underclassmen, but began to break out of his shell each year. Kevin became very focused on improving as an individual, but more important to him was the team. Although he battled with his fair share of injuries, his commitment to his teammates never wavered. One of Kevin's greatest attributes was his kindness to friends and teammates alike. Kevin was very close to his family and a tight group of friends in Marshfield that miss him dearly. Kevin will always be remembered for his friendly smile.
Shawn was my High School teammate and friend at East Bridgewater. I was lucky enough to join the cross country team and learn alot from him. Our team was able to win the first All-State Championship in school history. We shared this and many more special moments over 3 years. Shawn always had the ability to lighten the mood with his goofy personality, a joke or long story. You could always hear his laugh from a mile away. I was very fortunate to have had spent a weekend camping last september with Shawn, his brother Matt and good friend Tj. We had a lot of good laughs remincing about the High School days. Shawn had just qaulified for the Boston Marathon and had planned to run in 2017.
I have gone and watched the Boston Marathon for 10 straight years supporting friends and family. I couldn't think of any better way to run it for the first time in memory of Kevin and Shawn. This is such an important cause, because in both cases family and friends weren't aware of Kevin and Shawn's struggles. This is a great way to raise awareness and support an organization dedicated to suicide prevention. Please take the time to either donate or simply spread awareness.
Thank you for your support!
