Thank you for visiting my page for the 2017 Samaritans Boston Marathon team. The team is raising awareness and funds for Samaritans, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to reducing the incidence of suicide. Although I previously qualified for the race, I chose to raise funds for an incredible organization with a mission that means so much to my family.
Since 2007, my family has participated in the Samaritans 5K Walk/Run in memory of my aunt Kathy. While I did not know Kathy personally, I have seen the impact her death had on her siblings and children. It means a lot to support an organization that dedicates everything to giving hope to people who otherwise have none and preventing the loss of others' friends, family members, and loved ones. The services that Samaritans provide are extremely important, and it has been exciting to see them evolve over the past decade.
After walking in the 2007 and 2008 5K events, I decided that if I ever attended again, it would be as a runner and fundraiser for Samaritans. Since then, I have raised thousands of dollars across five races to help my family’s efforts. I decided to join the marathon team this year as part of my family’s deep involvement with Samaritans and since the 5K sparked my own running career.
I greatly appreciate any contributions that people may be able to make for the 2017 marathon to reach my fundraising goal. I joined the team not only to celebrate the memory of Kathy, but also to continue to raise awareness of suicide and to assist all those who may be struggling with depression, bullying, and other problems. All proceeds generated from this year's team will benefit Samaritans' suicide prevention services including its 24/7 Crisis Services phone and text helplines, Community Education and Outreach, and Grief Support Services for those who have lost someone to suicide. Thank you very much for your support.
