Thank you so much for visiting my fundraising page for the 2017 Boston Marathon!
I grew up just outside of Boston in Concord, MA and now live in Cambridge with my husband, Chris. I am devoted to my Newfoundland, Heidi, and to my two cats, Buster and Pork Chop. I am an attorney with a specialty in health care.
I lost my father to suicide in July, 2013. The Samaritans showed me that there is life after suicide. Safe Place meetings reminded me that I wasn't alone in my struggles and that there were people all around me who knew what I was going through. At Safe Place meetings, I was able to interact with other survivors who had lost a parent, sibling, child, or spouse but who were still standing on their own two feet. I am currently training to become a facilitator for Samaritan's Safe Place meetings and a participant in the Samaritan's Survivor to Survivor Network.
Running also plays a huge role in my personal story. I was training for my first marathon when I lost my father. Training was extremely difficult for me in the early days after my father's death. But with lots of support from friends and family (and, especially, my amazing husband) I crossed the finish line of the Philadelphia Marathon just four months after losing my dad. Not only was it one of the proudest moments of my life, but it was concrete evidence that amazing things could still happen even after suicide -- that I could still achieve my goals, that I could still make happy memories, and that I could still grow and thrive. I have made distance running a part of my life since then.
My journey is far from over and there isn't a day (or a run) that I don't think about my dad. But I can confidently say that I am a better, stronger, more compassionate and joyous person today than I was before I lost him, and that is in large part to the Samaritans. I cannot think of a better way to honor my father's memory, to share my story, and to say thank you to the Samaritans and myfellow survivors than by running the Boston Marathon on behalf of this incredible organization.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your donation.
