Send Selfless High School Seniors on Their Senior Trip!
Organized by: Alex LaCasse
UPDATE 2.0: Hey everyone! I'll be sending a check to the school on MONDAY 6/15! After that, I'll be shutting the page down. Thank you so much for everything!
UPDATE: Thank you all, so much, for the generous support. This has been an overwhelming day! I didn't realize it'd be so hard to teach my 7th graders and respond to all this at the same time! I have spoken to the Profile High School students and they wanted to extend their deepest gratitude. They are humbled at the outpouring of support and are feeling a tad overwhelmed. They also indicated that they still plan on taking a modest, low-key senior trip this weekend. They are excited to accept these generous donations and either put it to use for a future senior trip, or donate to a Cancer research foundation. It's clear that their main priority right now is their principal. These students are gems! I told them that I would send them the money, and it would ultimately be up to them as to what they would do with it. Just want to make it as transparent as possible! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
As a 7th and 8th grade teacher in Seattle, I was taken aback but unsurprised at the selflessness of the Senior class at Profile Junior-Senior High School in Bethlehem, New Hampshire. I discovered this story while reading Buzzfeed at the end of a school day. I do not know these students personally. The Senior class donated all of the $8,000 they raised for their class trip to their principal who has recently been diagnosed with cancer.
The Huffington Post article
This does not surprise me. Today's youth often get a bad reputation--their "greed" and "selfishness" propagated over and over. Yet, these are the type of students I am use to interacting with. This generation is open-minded, selfless, compassionate, and willing to do anything for anyone. Their principal, too, deserves credit for fostering and supporting these young minds. These seniors deserve a class trip.
It would be amazing to raise some funds for them so that they can take that trip and end their high school experience with something fun! The rest of the country needs to see what our future generation is capable of doing.
NOTE: Any money raised over the $8,000 for their trip will be given to the high school principal, Courtney Vashaw, to help her cover medical expenses! WIN-WIN!
