Sisterhood is a place to be, a place to be loved in, and a place to love. You can support the building of the Sisterhood Empowerment Academy (SEA)!
There are no women centers, YWCA’s or Girls Scouts in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands. Sisterhood Agenda implemented the first Female Empowerment Conference for 100 high school girls in the Virgin Islands and implements mentoring, health, and media strategies for girls that promote: sisterhood, self-knowledge, self-development, and self-esteem.
Sisterhood Agenda will use funds to build the SEA, an eco-friendly female resource center: a place of knowledge, support, self-determination, and healing.
Sisterhood Mentoring participant Lioness states, “I think we need a space because if we are in some random building, it’s not a safe space. We need one safe space where you can talk to people. Girls need more privacy than anyone, really, and this space will give us that.”
Ayana adds, “Girls need a space to know more about their gender and how important it is. We have to educate girls how to be the women they want to be.”
History and research shows us that communities cannot operate independent of their environment. The SEA incorporates permaculture design to build a sustainable building consisting of 1,680 square feet of indoor/outdoor meeting spaces with a multi-media center, and library. The facility includes organic fruit, vegetable, and herb gardens with ocean front views. Land for the academy has been secured.
