On March 17th, I will be running my first ever Half Marathon in New York City. I will not say that the training has been easy but my goal has been set and I am almost there! I only did my first 10k last year and have never classed myself as a 'runner!'
As this is my first half, I wanted to fundraise to help a cause that is dear to my heart as well as, I am sure, many of yours.
A few years ago, just after I had moved to the USA, my Dad was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. He had surgery to remove the prostate and unfortunately for him, the disease was advanced enough that this was not curative. Many radiotherapy sessions after also did not seem to work and the doctors then reverted to hormone treatment to keep the cancer at bay. Luckily for him, this treatment option is working and he is happily still with us.
Many of my friends and their loved ones have fallen to cancer, including my own two beloved Grandfathers. Most recently a dear childhood friend of mine find out that his father is terminally ill and just last week, another dear friend's mum passed after many years of pain and suffering.
The Charity I choose to support is Stand Up to Cancer. Their mission is to fund collaborative, translational cancer research in the form of grants to develop new treatments quickly in order to save lives now. This also supports groundbreaking cancer research projects that are high-risk but could also be high-impact. The even better thing, is that these multi-institutional groups of scientists work collaboratively, rather than competitively.
Please help me to support this worthy cause. Crowdrise and their partners ensure 100% of the money you pledge goes directly to the charity and 100% of public funds go directly into research grants.
Let's fight to Stand Up to Cancer and end this horrible disease.. One (running) step at a time!! Hopefully I will see some of you cheering me on for race day or at the finish line!
Thanks for your support,
