BENEFITING: Jack H Marston II Melanoma Fund
EVENT: Jacks Team NYC Marathon 2017
EVENT DATE: Nov 05, 2017
My name is Steve Cote and I’m the parent of Ben Cote. Ben passed away in 2007 from complications of Cancer at the age of 8. Ben was remarkable and inspiring in the manner in which he faced Cancer and his ultimate mortality. Ben refused to allow his illness to define him. He made us laugh. He enjoyed Ozzy, AC/DC and most music turned up loud. Ben played on his baseball team up until the final months of his life. He was passionate about helping Animals and aspired to become a veterinarian (see the short video). He got the most out of his life.
After his passing, I turned to running to both honor Ben and as an outlet to process through my grief. A personal goal was to complete 8-Marathons, one for each year of his life. So it is with mixed emotions (but mostly joy), that I have started training for my 8th and final marathon. I have again partnered with Jack’s Fund Marathon Team, a charitable organization that is committed to raising awareness and funds for the fight against Melanoma (a soft tissue Cancer similar to Ben’s). I humbly ask you to consider a making a contribution to support my goals to raise $2,500 for this very worthy organization and to honor Ben’s enduring spirit. JACK'S MARATHON TEAM ...FIGHTING MELANOMA EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.
Join us in support of an incredible group of athletes who have chosen to make their marathon experience more meaningful by raising funds to fight the deadly disease melanoma. We invite you to help them reach their goals and join the fight.
Our Vision: "We envision a world where every adult and child is aware of the risks of melanoma and takes preventative measures; where those who suffer from melanoma receive comfort and healing; and ultimately, where every case of melanoma will be completely curable."
2017 Goal: Raise $100,000 for melanoma research and awareness programs.
Melanoma is the most underfunded of all cancers by federal and private agencies.
- Early detection makes melanoma highly curable, but it is the least screened cancer.
- People find their own melanoma more frequently than doctors do and melanoma detection is not a training requirement for most medical disciplines.
Jack’s Team: Established in 2005 when a group of athletes came together to join the fight against melanoma. Jack's Fund has been an official marathon charity for 12 years and disbursed over $300,000 to research. We invite athletes of varied experience from all stages of life to join Jack’s Team.
Our success stems from a unique Strength, Passion and Focus (S.P.F.) each member brings to the team.
Your fundraising efforts and dedication to raising awareness will truly make a difference. To learn more, please visit our website at Jacksfund.org.
