THE STORY:

Benefiting

The Afghan Institute of Learning's Education Program.

Dr. Sakena Yacoobi founded AIL to provide education to poor Afghans living in urban and rural areas through it's Learning Centers and health education through its clinics.

Support AIL's education program by donating to our fundraiser!

More than 85% of Afghan women are illiterate. If an Afghan girl goes to school, chances are she will not go past the 6th grade. As if this weren’t enough, women do not have access to quality healthcare or education.

The Afghan Institute of Learning (AIL) is an Afghan NGO, led by women, providing 400,000 Afghans, mostly women and children, with quality education and healthcare each year.

"I want to read"

With your help, our Learning Centers teach literacy, sewing, computers, math, English and more to 24,000 students each year. Where there is no school, AIL’s Learning Centers fill the void. Where there are schools, we educate the mothers of the students, allowing  them to help with homework and also get jobs.

“I want to be well”

Our Clinics offer healthcare to the sick and preventative medicine, such as vaccines, to the healthy. All women and children receive health education so they will know how to keep their families well.

Afghan women and children need our help, and we need yours.

$10 provides a girl with the books and supplies she needs to go to class.

$25 buys phone cards for 3 students in Mobile Literacy texting class

$65 pays for a woman to take a literacy class.

$156 pays for healthcare and education for 100 women

$325 pays a teacher’s salary for 6 months.

$1000 provides healthcare and education to 640 women.

Your help  will allow us to continue supporting women like Sima, a young Afghan woman who graduated from AIL’s computer program. At the promotion ceremony, Sima was thrilled to tell everyone that because of the skills she had learned in class, she had been hired by a construction company. Her husband is a day laborer, and not able to earn enough to support their family. Now, thanks to the computer class, she has begun her job and is earning an income. Sima realizes that she might face challenges being a woman working outside of the home, but she feels ready to face them. She said “I know I might face problems because I am a woman, and there are some who feel that a woman shouldn’t work outside of the home, but I want to work and will ignore whatever is said about me. I thank AIL for giving me this chance to change my life”

Your support will mean we can continue transforming the lives of Afghan women and children by supporting AIL's Learning Centers and clinics.
