THRIVE: Navigating Cancer the Body/Mind/Spirit Way
Organized by: Karen Williams
October 24th Update: Many (many, many) thanks to the students, vendors, volunteers and entertainers who joined us for THRIVE! It was a truly amazing day from start to finish! From various sources -- donations, raffle proceeds, vendor sales and wellness services -- we have raised almost $5,300. Wow! We heard from a number of you that you still wish to make an online donation, so we will keep the CrowdRise site open a while longer. We deeply appreciate your contribution that will allow individuals in cancer treatment to receive the healing benefits of yoga!
We passionately believe that ALL cancer patients should have access to affordable therapeutic yoga for an extended period of time.
What we accomplished together with THRIVE last year was nothing short of miraculous in raising close to $5,000. Those funds were used to bring Yoga4Cancer and Tari Prinster to Charlotte in May and provided partial scholarships for 24 yoga teachers to receive specialized training in therapeutic yoga for cancer patients. These teachers returned to their communities, offering compassionate healing to myriad individuals whose faces we may never see and whose names we may never know. Many of the teachers are right here in Charlotte, bringing yoga to members of our community who are on the challenging cancer journey.
Now that we have trained teachers, the objective of THRIVE 2015 is to offer free classes to cancer patients and their caregivers at Yoga for Life for an entire year. Supporting cancer patients through meditation, breath work and calming/energizing movement is the goal of the Yoga for Cancer classes we plan to offer.
On October 24, 2015, we hosted a full day special event at Centered Wellness and Yoga for Life (Charlotte, NC) that included free classes, fun activities, delicious food, amazing vendors and a raffle with fabulous donated prizes. We've set the audacious goal of raising $7,500 to fund multiple weekly Yoga for Cancer classes for the next twelve months.

Please Note: THRIVE is NOT a 501(c)(3) organization and your donation is NOT tax-deductible. The karma credits are off the charts, but we don't want our yogi friends getting in trouble with the IRS.
