2017 Boston Marathon Race Report
April 21, 2017
BENEFITING: TargetCancer Foundation
ORGANIZER: TargetCancer Foundation
EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
I am incredibly honored and humbled to announce that I will be running the 2017 Boston Marathon with the TargetCancer Foundation! This will be my 6th marathon, but it will be the most meaningful for me as I will be raising money for a cause that I am very passionate about- cancer research. As a graduate student in the Biological Engineering Department at MIT working in the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, I've seen firsthand how funds raised through organizations like the TargetCancer Foundation directly translate to the understanding of how cancers arise, grow, mutate, and most importantly, how they can be treated.
For those who are unfamiliar with this organization, the TargetCancer Foundation's mission is to raise funds to support the research and development of treatments for rare cancers. While there has been an amazing amount of support for cancer research in general, rare cancers are often overlooked and underfunded. I’ve had the opportunity to visit a lab that has been supported by the TargetCancer Foundation, and they have made incredible headway in developing a treatment for cholangiocarcinoma. My hope is that by running on behalf of the TargetCancer Foundation, I can not only raise money for the research of rare cancers, but I can raise awareness for these diseases as well.
Thank you for supporting me as I train for the Boston Marathon, and thank you for supporting the scientists, doctors, and patients who are fighting rare cancers every day. Stay tuned for updates and events!
