BENEFITING: The Breast Cancer Research Foundation
ORGANIZER: The Breast Cancer Research Foundation
EVENT DATE: Nov 02, 2014
Hello! Thank you very much for checking out my fundraising page for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. I want to first say that I am extremely excited and honored to have been chosen to represent BCRF in the NYC Marathon! So many of us have been affected by breast cancer both directly and indirectly and to be a part of a team striving to put an end to this horrible disease is humbling to say the least.
Here's my story:
I haven't had cancer myself, but 2 of my close Aunt's (Aunt Lori and Aunt Lisa) had Breast Cancer and passed away from it in their late 40s, early 50s, both within 5 years of eachother. They both fought extremely hard to fend off the disease, but eventually the cancer was too much for their bodies to handle and now they are in a much better place, cancer free! You never would've known they had cancer because their attitude was so positive during their treatment. They have both inspired me and so many others to have a better outlook on life and to live everyday to the fullest. My Grandma, their mom, was also diagnosed with breast cancer a couple years ago. Grandma just turned 85 and, thanks to treatment and God's help, she was able to beat it and is now cancer free! I am running for them as well as everyone else who has been impacted by cancer.
My Aunt Lori was a runner herself and participated in the 100th Boston Marathon with my Mom, Peggy (who is also running for Team BCRF so go check out her page too and donate!). She has motivated me in my attempt to become a runner and I know her and my Aunt Lisa will be helping me along the way during the tough 26.2 mile stretch through the streets of NYC. This will be my third marathon in three years, finishing the Portland Marathon the last two. However, this one is very special to me, not only because it's in the Big Apple, but because of what and who I am running for! Anyone that has been affected by cancer knows that it is a life changing disease with lasting impact. I ask you to please take this opportunity to donate towards my fundraising page because BCRF has the ability to help put an end to breast cancer. All of your donations will go towards breast cancer research. Anything helps!
Lastly, I want to leave you with an inspirational Bible verse that was read at my Aunt Lori's funeral. It was her favorite verse and it is mine as well:
Let us run the race set before us with perseverance and never give up. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Hebrews 12:1
Thank you and God bless!

Our BCRF marathon team is diverse—we are survivors, family members, employees, supporters, allies, professionals, runners, non-runners, and even researchers. For over 20 years, BCRF-funded researchers have been at the forefront of nearly every significant breakthrough in understanding, preventing and treating the disease. We know that the answers continue to lie in science, and that the only thing standing in the way is research funding. With your help, together we can accelerate progress and achieve a world without breast cancer.
