EVENT: 2012 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 16, 2012
Dear Friends and Family,
As many of you already know, on April 16th 2012, I will be running in the 116th Boston Marathon. I am excited to be running my first marathon, especially because I am running on behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay. BBBSMB is a fantastic organization that promotes the healthy development of children through one-to-one friendships with caring, responsible adults, supported by trained professional staff. Being a Big Brother myself, I know firsthand the impact this agency has on the lives of the children and the families they serve.
For nearly two years, I have had the pleasure of mentoring my Little Brother Jakeim, an energetic and thoughtful 9 year old, who lives with his grandmother Jessie and his little brother Tyquan on Heath Street in Jamaica Plain. His mother died two years ago and his father is currently not a part of his life. Although Jakeim’s life has been full of ups and downs in his nine years, you wouldn’t know it if you met him. Jakeim is a fun loving, clever and happy kid who, like most boys his age, enjoys playing sports, video games and eating pizza.
With this e-mail, I am reaching out to you in hopes that you will support me in running the Boston Marathon, and help me reach my goal of raising $5,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay. Your generosity will help BBBSMB bring the transformative power of mentoring into the lives of the most at-risk youth in Greater Boston. Currently there are 1,600 children in Boston waiting for a mentor, but the funds that I raise through the marathon will help chip away at that number and match more deserving children with a Big Brother or Big Sister of their very own. The easiest way to make a donation is at my fundraiser webpage, http://www.crowdrise.com/ChrisBlood#projects , you can also send a check made out to ‘Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay’ to my home address at 26 Eddy Street, Waltham, MA 02453.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay has provided tremendous support to me in my efforts to be a great mentor and a fun Big Brother to Jakeim so that I can try to make a difference in his life. Even the smallest amount you contribute to my run will make a difference. Not only would I appreciate your support in the form of a donation, but it would be great to see you all on race day as I make my 26.2 mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.
I just finished a 14 mile run this past weekend and will move onto 16 miles in just a few days now; your support is crucial to my success and the success of Jakeim and many young boys and girls like him, thank you so much for your consideration.
All the best,
