THE STORY:

I am raising money for the Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita by running the Los Angeles Marathon! Not only is this goal one that has been on my list of things to do for years now, but I am so glad to say that all of the money raised will go directly to help to prevent domestic abuse in our valley. So many men and women are affected by this abuse on a daily basis. According to the Domestic Violence Resource Center:
-One in four women (25%) has experienced domestic violence in her lifetime.
-On average, more than three women and one man are murdered by their intimate partners in this country every day.
-Studies suggest that between 3.3 - 10 million children witness some form of domestic violence annually.
-Approximately one in five female high school students reports being physically and/or sexually abused by a dating partner.

The DVC of Santa Clarita writes:
Domestic violence is no longer a family matter. It affects individuals in every community, regardless of age, economic status, race, religion, nationality or educational background. It is a growing problem in the country creating a long lasting impact on victims and family.
DVC of the SCV provides free services to survivors of domestic violence. Services include 24 hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter, counseling services, court advocacy, legal referrals and community outreach.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CENTER OF SANTA wrote -

According to statistics published by the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) in 2010 on September 15th, 5,261 victims were provided with services from domestic violence agencies throughout California. 1 out of 4 women experience abuse by their boyfriend or spouse and only ¼ of women report the abuse. Tragically,  3 women a day are killed by their abusers.

Domestic violence is no longer a family matter. It affects individuals in every community, regardless of age, economic status, race, religion, nationality or educational background. It is a growing problem in the country creating a long lasting impact on victims and family.
