BENEFITING: GOLF FIGHTS CANCER
ORGANIZER: GOLF FIGHTS CANCER
EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
I’m proud to officially announce that this April I will be running the Boston Marathon on behalf of my best friend, role model, and big brother Davey Hovey. While most people know his story at this point, allow me to reiterate. Davey was diagnosed with Stage IV Glioblastoma, an aggressive form of Brain Cancer, in October of 2015. Since then, Davey has undergone 5 surgeries, 4 different types of treatment, and countless other day to day struggles, but has battled each and every one of these days with incredible strength and courage. He continues to push forward, not having complained once about the unfairness of the situation.
I can’t even begin to describe how much of a role model Davey has been to me. As long as I can remember, I have always tried to be like Davey in whatever way possible. I followed Davey into all the same sports, then to Westminster for High School, then St. Lawrence where we both played attack on the lacrosse team (both captains I might add..), and then to Boston upon graduating. There are few things in my life that I have chosen to do without Davey having paved the way first. Now it is my turn to do something for Davey.
Glioblastoma is an uncommon cancer that few people are diagnosed with. As a result, it is much more difficult to generate awareness and raise money for research. Large pharmaceuticals are more focused on developing drugs to treat more common cancers as these drugs would help more people and in doing so be more profitable for the company. While Glioblastoma has traditionally been off their radar, recent developments have generated more interest from these pharmaceutical companies. After having raised over 130K this past summer through Davey’s Golf Fights Cancer Golf Marathon, we are asking for your help and support again. I can promise that your money is going to good use. This disease is nasty and we need your help to take another step in the quest to cure it. Donations of all sizes are welcome and appreciated. Thank you to everyone for your continued support and I look forward to running for Davey and all of you in April!
Let the Crush Tour continue and as always, KEEP THE FAITH.
