Help me raise money for Happiness is Camping as I take on my biggest challenge yet...running 26.2 miles!
As many of you know I have been volunteering at Happiness is Camping since 1996 for a week every summer. In fact my husband and kids now come with me every year to experience a week at camp with kids who have cancer and their siblings. I look forward to this week every year. It is priceless to play in the pool with my patients, watch them do the "regular kid" thing while fighting a horrible disease.
Camp has been hit hard over the last few years in the current economic situation. I have taken up running over the last few years as well and I decided to raise money for camp while running. Reaching my fundraising goal along with my running goal will be such an amazing feeling in November. I hope many of you can help me support camp and support my run. Any amount will help.
For those of you who aren't familiar with camp, below is a little summary of a great big wonderful place!
Happiness Is Camping, for children with cancer, was founded in 1980. About 400 children, girls and boys aged 6-15 years, attend the overnight camp, staying from one to all of the sessions, depending on their health.
The camp is free to all, supported by donations and volunteer staff members. The medical staff, doctors and nurses, from The Children's Hospital at Montefiore, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and other fine facilities, provide medical supervision of the highest quality, with facilities for kids requiring chemotherapy, children at risk of bleeding and infection or with significant physical disabilities.
Happiness Is Camping is a special place where the remarkable is routine. We're a regular sleepaway camp for normal kids; girls and boys who just happen to have cancer.
Thank you all for your support!
