Welcome to my fundraising home for the next six months. Thanks for making it here and considering a donation. I've never asked friends, family or clients for donations before, so your consideration alone is humbling.
As most of you know, I received a kidney from my father 11 years ago. It saved my life, but also changed it. All organ transplants are treatments, not cures. In order to keep these gifts, they must be taken care of, so among my many lifestyle changes, I started running. Four years into it, I am in far better health than ever in my life. I plan on keeping this kidney forever.
For many recipients, it's a common misconception that transplantation is a cure. Poor diet, noncompliance with the drug regimen and lack of exercise can all contribute to organ rejection. And when organs are lost, patients often return to the already too long waiting list.
I hope this adventure of mine inspires not only organ donation, but also transplanted organ preservation. All patients fortunate enough to receive a new lease on life should do everything they can to keep their gifts.
