I have committed to running (ok, jogging) the Boston Marathon for the second time. This year I am running with a number from John Hancock. I wanted to meet my new co-workers and am fundraising for Teen Empowerment, one of the charities John Hancock is supporting this year. I am so grateful for this opportunity! I was fortunate to meet the founder of Teen Empowerment recently and was very moved by the personal stories of lives changes that he described.
Please note: Anyone who donates $26 or more, is automatically entered to win an iPad2 and one hair curler (I know, very random)!! If you are interested in the rules of how this works, please click here.
Every dollar donated to Teen Empowerment is used to hire and support high risk youth from urban neighborhoods, train them to be leaders in their community and assist them in planning and carrying out initiatives engaging thousands of community members each year. These initiatives include things such as police-youth dialogue sessions, teen poetry nights or conflict resolution training.
Please spend a few minutes looking at the video or website of TE youth at work and you will see the capacity that they have to communicate powerful messages of mutual respect that is helping to create urban environments where healing is possible and violence unthinkable.
Thank you for your donation!
