Dear Friends & Strangers,
My name is Priti and I’m turning 27 in January of 2013. To celebrate my birthday, I would like to raise $2,700 over the course of my 27th year to provide restorative surgery and postoperative care for 6 beautiful girls suffering from Obstetric or Traumatic Fistula.
What’s a Fistula?
A fistula is a hole between the bladder and vagina OR rectum and vagina that causes incontinence (uncontrollable urination or defecation). Sufferers can experience one form or both forms of fistula. Women and girls are at risk of developing obstetric fistulas when they do not have proper OBGYN care during childbirth.
Traumatic fistula is a result of sexual violence. It is caused by rape or women being butchered from the inside with bayonets, wood, or even rifles.
Imagine having to live with such a humiliating condition. Women and girls are often ostracized by their communities because they are unable to have children and have a foul odor. Even worse, imagine being brutally raped and then living with a fistula. The thought is unbearable to me.
Please wish me a Happy Birthday and help me provide 6 beautiful girls with the gift of a brighter future.
