BENEFITING: ALS Association Greater New York Chapter
ORGANIZER: ALS Association Greater New York Chapter
EVENT DATE: Nov 03, 2013
Hi! : )
Thanks for stopping by! Yup, that's me in the picture. Just call me the ALS Running Warrior.
I am in the process of training to run in the NYC 2013 ING Marathon this fall with Colleen and Marissa. It's no secret that training for this race is some hard work. What makes meeting the weekly miles less daunting, the long runs on Saturday less anxiety-ridden, the hill training less intimidating and sloshing down flavored gu less like swallowing a bowling ball? The people we run for. This year we will be running in honor of Ed Grossman and in memory of Olga Desciscio.
I recently read somewhere that enduring all that comes with crossing the finish line of a 26.2 mile foot race is a "moment in time when an average person can feel like MIchael Jordan and do something extraordinary." I can't help but agree. There's one thing that feels even sweeter and more extraordinary than crossing that finish line in Central Park, Alicia Keyes belting out "Empire State of Mind" on repeat - - it's knowing that with each step we take through the boroughs of NYC, we've raised money to benefit the ALS Association, the cutting edge research they continue to conduct and the lives they help and support.
Colleen, Marissa and I will be having fun running - and, let's be honest, maybe even more fun FUNdraising ( get it? ) so stay tuned for announcements of future events. (And, yes, of course we'll be having another beer pong tournament!)
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
