Help me and Diana Cebrick reach our fundraising goal!
Some of you might remember that a couple years ago, I along with 3 other Barclaycard Legal colleagues in the UK participated in a 22 mile rowing race down the Thames. We found it to be a fantastic experience and have decided to try for an encore.
This year there are two differences. The most important is that one of our colleagues, a 6”3” 200 pound former rugby player, is no longer with Barclaycard Legal. So this year, we are replacing him with Diana Cebrick, the Barclaycard US head of Compliance. Diana says she is 5”2” but I think she is closer to 5’ – and I have not asked her what she weighs (I value my life) but I really doubt it is over 105 pounds. She promises that she has been doing a lot of upper body strength training – We’ll see. There second difference is that we have upgraded boats and will be rowing the Nancy (see below) – this year our oars will have blades on them! That stated, it still promises to be a long 4+ hours of rowing
The really good thing about this race is that I get to use this as an excuse to raise money for a very special school– Prestige Academy. Prestige is transforming the lives of its students. The students are primarily African-American and Latino young men from the most impoverished areas of Wilmington. They attend school from August through June, from 7:30 am until 4:00 pm. They have a demanding curriculum consisting of 90 minute classes each day in Math, English, Social Studies and Science and over 2 hours of homework each night. REAL values that will help propel them to success (Respect and Responsibility, Excellence in behavior, Academic mastery and Leadership) are inculcated into them. The goal is to get them ready for demanding college preparatory high schools, to attend college and ultimately to be successful in life. If it was not for Prestige many if not most of its students would no longer be in school and instead would be on the street.
I encourage you to contribute to this incredible school that is making such a difference in these young mens’ lives. No amount is too large – none too small, and all donations will be matched by Barclays!
Thanks so much. Can't tell you how much we appreciate your support.
