Please sponsor me for the MS Marathon! Most of you know I suffer from MS and have made amazing friends who also suffer with this disease. Thanks to the Tisch foundation and IMSMP I am where I am today. By you helping their cause you are helping me and many others. Blessings to all and thank you in advance! Please pass along and help me with this important fund raiser! Having Multiple Sclerosis myself and being a mother of 4 young children, I unfortunately am not able to run the way others can run. However, I feel such ambition to help Tisch and IMSMP for all they do. I will jog and walk in NJ the day of the marathon in NJ and be with the runners in spirit. I am going to need to stop once my body tells me it has had enough! Thank you all for your understanding and support! XOXO Some background,
Before I was diagnosed with MS, I was given many false diagnoses. My symptoms began in 2004 and slowly worsened, intensifying over the years. It wasn’t until January of 2010 that I was finally sent for an MRI for the first time. During this time, I struggled with a variety of symptoms that were never adequately explained.
After a year and a half of active MS, I was finally led to the IMSMP and my life once again began to return to normal. My doctor was able to get my pain under control which I never thought possible. He gave me the right treatments and medications along with physical therapy and he was able to put me into a remission, after such a long drawn out relapse. When I returned to him after 6 months of the treatments he had me on, he asked me to walk down the hallway, I told him I’d run and I did. I went from having babysitters around the clock because I could not take care of my three children under four years old to having an additional baby and now running after my 4 beautiful children daily! The gratitude I have for the IMSMP and to Dr. Williams is beyond words. They are always there when you need them. The office staff is helpful, the doctors are amazing, and the research team is determined to find a cure, which I believe will come from Tisch MSRCNY. They were able to get me out of a 16 month relapse and they have kept me stable. A few months ago I was dancing at a wedding in high heels and I had the biggest smile on my face. I said to my husband: thanks to Dr. Williams I can do this. I know with the help of the IMSMP I can maintain this wonderful quality of life that they have given back to me and my family.
Join/Support Team Tisch MS!
Tisch MSRCNY was selected by New York Road Runners (NYRR) as a charity community partner of the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon. We are a dedicated team of runners, including physicians, nurses, patients, and friends of the Tisch Multiple Sclerosis Research Center of New York who have committed themselves to running and raising funds.
We have set an ambitious goal of $40,000 to help support our cutting-edge research program including the development of biomarkers, understanding disease mechanisms, and identification of a trigger that might cause the disease. Tisch MS Research Center of New York is the only organization in the US conducting an FDA-approved Phase I stem cell clinical trial using neuroprogenitors with the potential to repair the damage caused by MS and reverse disability.
If you are already registered for the NYC Marathon, you are welcome to join our team! We promise that you will have the best, most rewarding experience while making a true difference in our mission to end MS.
