THE STORY:

Tuckerton Seaport Community Garden

Building community.  Feeding our neighbors.

Help Tuckerton Seaport’s Community Garden get growing!  What better place for a community garden than your community museum?  As recovery and rebuilding continues following Superstorm Sandy, we learned that although it has been three years 1,200 families currently receive help each month from the local food pantry.  We have been committed since the beginning to helping in any way we can.  We bring items collected at the Seaport to the Tuckerton Food Pantry each month, but more help is needed.  Tuckerton Seaport & Baymen’s Museum wants to continue to support our neighbors by  launching a Community Garden, bringing volunteers together to plant and harvest, and then sharing the fruits of our labor with those in need.  After all, New Jersey is the garden state.  The Seaport will also host programs focused on healthy eating, recycling, and planting a garden at home. The Seaport can act as a hub, uniting people in need with those who want to give back.

Here is your chance.

Make a donation to help us get growing!

Tuckerton Seaport’s Community Garden will be planted this spring on the south lawn of the historic Captain’s House.   Featured crops will include many indigenous to New Jersey such as the 3 Sisters grown by the Native Americans (squash, corn, and climbing beans), as well as those that have made New Jersey famous like tomatoes.
