Afowiri Kizito Fondzenyuy, founder of Amom Foundation and a 7-time marathoner will be taking upon a challenge to raise $50,000 by completing an ultra-marathon, which translates to 30 miles or about 50 kilometers at a stretch in Dec 2017.
For the past 10 years, Afowiri has been deeply involved in early primary and secondary school intervention through Amom Charity, based in Cameroon. He realized that there is no form of learning assessment apart from the public examinations, which do not cater for the reading level of ALL the children. Further, the public examinations exclude dropouts and children not attending school who are also an integral part of our society.
While preparing for the run, Afowiri is often asked: “Why do something so hard?"
“I'm running to be able to provide an environment where ALL children acquire foundational learning skills that help them become educated citizens to contribute to a better society,” is always his response.
The funds raised will be used to pilot the assessment of basic reading and numeracy competencies of all children, in their homes, through a citizen-led assessment in partnership with the People's Action for Learning (PAL Network).
Afowiri is asking that you pledge per mile run, or if you prefer you can make a flat donation by clicking on the donate button on the top of the page.
Amom Foundation is a US 501(c)(3) organization implying that your donations are tax deductible.
