I heard about the remarkable team of WUNners from David Gow, an E&Y colleague in our Boston office who is raising a son with narcolepsy. Dave ran the Boston Marathon in 2013.
I know all too well how dedicated parents with special-needs children need to be. The love of that child drives them to work harder and tirelessly to help them. My three-year-old Leo is autistic, and not a day goes by that I don't sleep a little less trying to think of new ways to help him. He is an absolute joy, and I wouldn't change anything about him, but I do pray I can learn to understand him so I can maneuver life just a bit easier.
I’m so proud to be running the 2014 race to benefit spread narcolepsy awareness and to honor the nightmare that engulfed Boston and the entire running community in the wake of the 2013 bombings. I’m running Boston for the second time, having finished the race in 2010. In total, I’ve run 9 marathons, including the 2013 New York City race, which I’m proud to say I finished in 3:29!
I’m a working mother of two. Running is my passion – it’s "my" time – practically the only opportunity I can carve out of my day when I can focus on just myself and my run. I run in the rain, in the cold, and in the heat. I even ran when I was pregnant. I did 12 miles the day before my Oliver was born and 5 miles in the morning before heading to the hospital.
Thank you for your support! You will be in my thoughts as I train and race from Hopkinton to Boston to benefit Wake Up Narcolepsy.
