EVENT DATE: May 14, 2016
The Walk and Roll for PWS is a 5K walk started in 2010 to bring awareness to CT about a rare disease called Prader-Willi syndrome. PWS is a broad spectrum genetic disorder, affecting ability to thrive in infancy, cognitive, motor and speech development, muscle tone and bone development, hormonal balance and the individual's ability to regulate the most basic facets of life, like temperature, pain regulation and satiety (the ability to feel full after eating.) An inability to feel satiated after eating can lead to lifelong obesity related health issues and even death due to complications like stomach rupture. PWS affects many families in our state and beyond yet many families in our region still feel very isolated, like they are traveling this journey all alone. Our network of amazing families is looking to change that. Our goal is not only to raise awareness and funding for treatments, support, and education but this event strives to bring local families living with PWS together, so that we all feel less alone. With your help you can make our dream a reality.
