Support the wounded warriors, sponsors, and volunteers who are participating in the 2012 Bataan Memorial Death March on Sunday, March 25, 2012. The Bataan Memorial Death March is an event honoring World War II heroes who fought to protect the Philippines. For the fifth consecutive year, Disabled Sports USA is participating in this event to honor this generation’s military heroes who have fought and suffered severe injury in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This year, Disabled Sports USA will sponsor over 50 wounded warriors and medical staff to challenge themselves in this march. Over 6,400 people will attempt to complete the course, including hundreds of active duty military and veterans. The course is very challenging, covers 26.2 miles in the dessert of White Sands, New Mexico with 3,600 feet of vertical rise and fall over road, dirt and sand dune. Many wounded warriors will be coming straight from Walter Reed and Brooke Army Medical Center to participate in one of the biggest sports challenge they have undertaken since their injury. For others, it is an event they look forward to every year.
Since 2003, more than 5,000 of the most severely wounded and their families have been served, including those with amputations, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, visual impairments, and significant nerve and muscle damage. All sports programs are provided at no cost to the warrior and his or her family member, including individualized instruction by trained adaptive sports instructors, adaptive sports equipment, meals, lodging, transportation and event fees.
Disabled Sports USA, through its military program, Warfighter Sports, is committed to make this a successful experience for each of the wounded warriors. Support the efforts of these brave men and women at the Bataan Memorial Death March by donating to Disabled Sports USA and helping rebuild the lives of the thousands of severely wounded warriors who will need our help now and in the future.
Cheer on their commitment by pledging your support TODAY!
