As a mother to 2 healthy, happy, vibrant little boys I was compelled to participate in this cycling charity ride supporting pediatric cancer research. I empathize with any family battling pediatric cancer and believe more research is necessary to improve the care, quality of life and survival rate of children.
Facts about pediatric cancer research:
- In 2014 approximately $8 billion dollars of government funding was set aside for all types of cancer research but only 4% went towards childhood cancer research.
- Because of research, the cancer death rate has dropped more dramatically for children than any other age group.
- Fundraising is key to finding cures and improvements to care for children.
The Tour of Long Beach is a cycling event supporting the Jonathan Jaques Children's Cancer Center (JJCCC) at Miller Children's & Women's Hospital Long Beach. JJCCC provides quality, compassionate care to children of all ages—infants, children and adolescents—with cancer, sickle cell disease, hemophilia and other serious blood disorders.
My husband (Bobby) and I have decided to ride 62 miles on 5/13/17 for this cause. Thank you for your support!
