When you donate to the Y ARTS, you make the DETROIT ARTS COMMUNITY better through programs focused on:
Media Works: $500 provides a 5 weeks media group
Y Media Works is a digital media initiative that connects local youth to the processes of media development. The program includes a Summer Media Institute based at the Boll Family YMCA, as well as year-round in-school and after-school classes at area YMCAs. Media Works engages youth in areas they are already interested in, marrying creativity and technology to help them find their voices. Additionally, participants work side by side with professional artists/mentors who by example show the many possibilities of creative careers.
Improv Project:$100 provides improv lessons for 10 kids
The Improv Project is an in-school and afterschool theatrical improvisation program for Detroit middle and high school students. In each school, two local actor/instructors teach improvisation theatre exercises and performance games. This program helps develop the lifelong skills of communication, team building and listening which prove essential in their adult life. The program is the result of a partnership between Y Arts and non-profit organization The Detroit Creativity Project, founded by Detroit native actors, musicians, and directors.
Art in Schools: $50 Supplies for an 8 week art class
Worldwide, art and artists drive the renaissance of large urban cities, including Detroit. At a time when art instruction is almost non-existent in schools, your investment will support ongoing art education experiences for 500 or more Detroit youth and 100 adults. Additionally through these programs, YArts will employ 25 working professional artists and educators, keeping them in Detroit, where their efforts contribute to downtown’s vibrant arts scene and the renaissance of the city.
Every dollar donated to the Y ARTS has a lasting impact on the people of the DETROIT ARTS COMMUNITY. Give today for a better us.
