BENEFITING: Lupus Foundation of America, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Jun 06, 2015
In 2010 Paul set a Guinness World Record for cycling across America and raised a lot of money for the Lupus Foundation. In 2011 he continued his fundraising efforts when he participated in the Tour D'Afrique - the world's longest cycle race from Cairo to Cape Town. Despite contracting malaria and tropical sprue whilst in Africa he still managed to be placed sixth overall at the end of the 4 month tour. He raises money and awareness for lupus worldwide because his young sister, Marie, was diagnosed with the disease when she was 13 and has been living with its effects since. Whilst struggling with the effects of malaria in Africa and still desperately trying to get on his bike and ride every day Paul wrote home to his parents "Now I know how Marie feels. Every joint in my body is aching!"
In 2013 Paul set another world record - this time cycling from the northernmost point of Europe, North Cape, Norway, to the most southern point of Tarifa in Spain. The previous record for this journey was 39 days. Paul completed the distance in 22 days. There have been quite a few other challenges for Paul since then. His latest achievement was winning the Hoodoo 500 last season.
Now he is ready for his next challenge - the Trans Am Solo Bike Race - over 4200 miles across America from Astoria, Oregon to Yorktown, Virginia. It's been awhile since he asked for donations (doesnt like to for every event he competes in) but this is a big one!
You can follow his journey via his website www.YesHesMad.com and via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and his SPOT GPS tracker. Its going to be another wild adventure!!
