Be a HERO for ZERO!!!
The New York City Marathon has grown from a Central Park race with 55 finishers to the world's biggest and most popular marathon. Now each year, more than 48,000 athletes take the challenge and participate in this exciting event.
Since I inherited my running genes from my 90-year old Dad...who besides riding his bike daily to the Senior Center for lunch, is also a prostate cancer survivor...I thought it might be fun to train/fundraise/run in his honor. As well as knowing I am predisposed to the disease…and hope further research will improve the treatment and outcomes.
Just a few sobering facts: (1) One in seven men will get prostate cancer, and the American Cancer Society estimates that 220,800 men will be told they have prostate cancer in 2015. (2) Every 19 minutes another American man dies from prostate cancer. (3) And on the good news front…since 1975 the 5-year survival rate has gone from 68% to nearly 100% today.
The charity I have chosen to support is “ZERO - The End of Prostate Cancer”, which is a national nonprofit organization with the mission to end prostate cancer. They lead the fight to end the disease by advancing research, encouraging action, and providing education and support to men and their families.
I hope you will help support my fundraising endeavor and be a HERO for ZERO (Hey, I made that up)…and also pray for my knees and heart to hold out!
Please be generous as this cause is actually making a difference!
Thanks SO much!!!
Carpe Diem…Seize The Day!
