"In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." - Martin Luther King, Jr. Trump, and others, have turned their back on refugees, but I will not. The sadness I feel from the events of the last few days is a new kind of sadness. I have always been proud to be an American and proud of the fact that America has been a beacon of hope for those fleeing persecution, war and terror. The suspension of the US resettlement program is irresponsible and shows an extreme level of ignorance among our leaders. I cannot be silent, and right now, this is what I can do to speak out. I am raising money for the International Rescue Committee. The IRC responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises and helps refugees around the world to have a second chance and to rebuild. It is an amazing organization and I urge others to donate, volunteer, or do what they can. I will match the first $250 raised, so please join me in speaking out. An update and addition to the end of the famous poem about those who were silent in the holocaust, as it is just as relevant today... "...Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. 2017... Then they came for the Muslims, and I did not speak out- Because I was not a Muslim. Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me."
