A CAUSE FOR RENAISSANCE
Organized by: Timothy Somers
After deployment overseas, Veterans and their families have a hard time coming together when they are back in the Homeland. Because I am a veteran and I understand their difficulties, I have decided to help. I want to dedicate boats and yachts for these families to use in an atmosphere of sharing: travel on the water, fine fun times to fish, scuba, and be together while they share the responsibilities of operation.
“Renaissance” is the first boat I have purchased for this project. She is sitting in Portland, Maine where she had to be repaired and dry docked at Harbor Marina. Last fall a Nor-Easter storm lifted her up onto an old navy ship launching dock from WWII. The survival of “Renaissance” and the chances of being saved from the storm were very surprising....she actually made the news. The storm damaged rudders, a propeller, destroyed the 12 foot Zodiac, canvas and electrical components.
After learning of her mission, people in the local community came to help and move her off the “old” dock and into dry dock. She has now received the repairs needed to prepare for her voyage to the California Delta. A miracle in the working.
Now....I need help getting her to a new home in Benicia, California where she can begin her new mission; a “Renaissance” for veterans and their families.
