I'll be running the Eugene Marathon in Eugene Oregon as Team "A Doula for Every Mother (Counts)". I'll be raising funds for Every Mother Counts, http://www.everymothercounts.org Every Mother Counts is a non-profit charity and action organization that links mothers to providers of essential prenatal care by addressing barriers of transportation, education and adequate supplies/facilities. As of 2015, over 500,000 mothers and babies have been impacted by their work. Their mission is to make pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother, everywhere. The United States is also facing a crisis where we are one of 8 nations seeing an increase in maternal mortality during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. This is unacceptable, especially as the nation that spends the most on healthcare services worldwide. We can do better and we need to do better for our mothers and babies. My goal is to raise $5000.00 by May 7, 2017 and donate all of that money directly to Every Mother Counts and the work that they do. I received my Master of Public Health with a focus on Global Health and trained as a birth doula. I am currently pursuing my Masters of Public Administration at the University of Washington with a focus on Public Policy. My professional and personal goal is working to provide care, education and support to mothers everywhere in order to improve birth outcomes and provide women CHOICE in how they experience birth. To my mama's, I do this in honor of you and your sweet babies, you are my forever inspiration and you will be in my heart as I run in Eugene on May 7th. Love you so much.
