A Holiday to Remember for Orphans and Children at Risk—2016
Organized by: Jack Larry Glover
We Did It!
December 19, 2016
Hello Family and Friends,
I invite you to again join in helping some 200+ orphans and children at risk, at the Magarini Children Centre and Organic Demonstration Farm, to have a 2016 Holiday Season to Remember.
A sustained drought and the consequent sequential loss of two food harvests are providing a challenging year at the Centre. Purchased beans and corn have become a staple for people grateful to have food. Their gratitude does not stop there, for the Centre is revisioning well-being and community and sustainable land-based thrivability.
“In essence the Magarini Children Centre is quickly redefining how people should live together. This is my definition of love.” — Emmanuel Karisa Baya, farmer and founder of Magarini Children Centre and Organic Demonstration Farm
I invite you to share in the creation and sustaining of this love.
I invite you in this very moment to experience the lightness and joy of spirit and heart that arise when we reach out a helping hand to someone less fortunate than ourselves. Indeed there are countless worthy causes asking for your generosity, especially during this holiday season.
Today however, I'm asking you to offer a contribution—small or large— to enable the Magarini Children Centre, in Kenya, Africa, to provide "A Holiday Season to Remember" for the orphans and children it serves and the local impoverished community; the Centre provides food and a formal education to children in desperate need, as well as teaching them how to farm organically "so they will always have something to eat," explained Emmanuel, when we met in February of 2015.
Emmanuel continued, "...we teach the children that if they take care of nature, nature will take care of them. We teach them how to farm organically and to love nature and so they learn to love themselves and each other too.”
To the above ends the Centre also teaches skills in peace making and conflict resolution, and gender equality and leadership too. This is an effort worth supporting in a world in desperate need of such.
I was moved and inspired by Emmanuel as he explained why his is called to give his life to this work. His personal story includes losing his mother and father by 6, working on farms to provide food for himself and siblings and then enormous efforts to receive an education as well. Never have I met a more generous or wholehearted man. Please, together let's help him and the community at the Center provide the children with A Holiday Season to Remember.
"Love is not an act to us, it's life to us." — Emmanuel Karisa Baya
Note: I've discovered that one of the best antidotes to my own easily aroused despair for today's world is a generosity of heart. The 'war on terror' rages and climate destabilization threatens civilization and humanity as we know it. In this moment you can make a difference in the life of a child and in the lightness of your own heart. Our world needs both! Please join me in this effort.
Regardless of any contribution here, consciously give something of your heart and soul to the world today. It is perhaps all any of us can do and here's a good opportunity to make just such a choice!
And if you need a bit of 'hope for tomorrow,' for how we might live together, you can find it on the Magarini Children Centre website or the Facebook page; just look into the eyes and smiles of the children. There are numerous videos providing more information also.

Stretch Goals & Additional needs: Additional funds raised will support infastructure projects such as the drilling of a water well, to support the Center's food self-sufficiency, or the building of a boys' dormitory, the building of two new classrooms, the laying of cement in classrooms to eliminate the existing dust problem, or the completion of toilet facilities....
O.U.R. Ecovillage, in BC, Canada, is fundraising for the 'green construction' of a boys' dormitory: www.ourecovillage.org. They are also providing guidance on how the Centre can become a model ecovillage inniative.
