BENEFITING: Joyful Heart Foundation
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
I pray that this message finds you and your family doing well.
I have decided to check off another thing off my bucket list of "Life".
I have been extremely blessed throughout my entire life. God has been with me at every roadblock and through every struggle. I have been blessed with 2 beautiful children and the best wife a man could ever wish for.
I will be turning 45 this year and I know that my training is more important now than ever before.
Running the New York City Marathon has been one of my goals for many years. I wanted to run the marathon but with a purpose. I was given the opportunity to run for A Joyful Heart Foundation, whose mission is to heal, educate and empower survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse, and to shed light into the darkness that surrounds these issues.
WOW! A coincidence? No way, I believe that God has a plan and that things happen for a reason. As a police officer for 22 years I have seen hundreds of victims, unfortunately we stop the threat and complete the paperwork, then move on to the next case. Often times we wonder what ever happened to that victim. Fortunately, there are organization like "A Joyful Heart" that are able to help these victims.
I have decided to run the New York City Marathon this year as part of the "A Joyful Heart Foundation" Team. My motivation will come from the thousands of victims of domestic violence and child abuse from around the country.
Here are a few statistics that I would like to share:
1 in 3 women report being physically or sexually abused by a husband or boyfriend at some point during their lives;
Every two minutes, someone is sexually assaulted in the United States;
More than 5 children die every day in the U.S. as a result of child abuse and neglect and up to 15 million children witness violence in their homes each year.
I humbly ask you join my team and assist me in meeting my goal of raising $3,500 as I begin my journey towards completing the New York City Marathon as I proudly run for The Joyful Heart Foundation this fall.
Thank you and may God bless you and all of the children around the world.
